Ep 7: Finding the Right Advisor

June 17, 2021

How do you find the right financial advisor? Some of it comes down to, what should you be getting from a financial advisor? On today’s episode of the podcast, Alan and Troy discuss what you should look for in an advisor and how to find one.

Setting your expectations appropriately may guide you to the right fit. You want someone who can advise you on everything to do with your finances, not just someone to invest your money. It should also include things like when to take Social Security or what a good tax strategy would be.

Are you feeling the need to find a new advisor? It’s important that you have a good relationship together. Do you like them and work well together? Are your conversations focused not only on your investments but all of your financial needs? Or, maybe you like your advisor but realize that you’re in a new stage of life.

Alan and Troy share what kind of questions they would ask or want out of a potential advisor. What are the key factors in making that decision? What is the fee structure? Many people will ask for a fiduciary, which is someone whose responsibility is to put the client’s best interests first. It’s important to find someone who is working on your behalf.
